Mont-Blanc Augments in Mass since 2004 as Announced by Scientists

New careful GPS measurements taken on the 15-16th Sept have recorded that Mount Blanc amounts to 4810.4 meters. Mont Blanc is covered by a deep icecap which has thickened by 2.6 m in only 2 yrs furthermore more suprisingly the volume of the snow and ice has all but doubled up . At any rate that is as reported by the professionals. The amount of snow and ice was figured for the initial time during 2003. It was measured at 14200 cubic metres higher than 4750 meters. It comprised merely 13800 cubic metres in 2002 perhaps ascribable to the high temperatures with positive temperatures even at 4800 metres elevation. Nevertheless the ice cap has virtually increased twofold since then and nowadays measures 25000 metres cubed.

Chamonix Mont Blanc’s illustrious local weather man Carmen Butler explained the growth in the size of the ice-cap is one of the counter intuitive effects of climate change: The amount of snow hasnt grown overall in the French Alps only with the climate change we’re having added hotter westerly winds that bring rain lower down but in summertime this results in significant snowfall that settles above 3600 meters height therefore the volume of the ice-cap is expanding. Counterpoint this to the situation in wintertime when snow crystals are very cold and are carried by the wind so dont settle down on the crest. Chamonix is not only renowned for Mont-Blanc it is also a well renowned skiing area and alpinism centre with many holiday deals and catered chalets to be found. Furthermore at merely one hour from Geneva airport it is unbeatable for chalet holidays.

Visiting Whistler Before The 2010 Olympics?

As a resident, business owner and frequent skiier at Whistler, I have realized that there are “secrets”, things to see and do that the average visitor to Whistler has NO idea about. I’ll try to pass along a local’s knowledge, but know that Whistler is a paradise all of its own - these secrets merely add to the magic!

Hotels can be $300 a night and up during ski season, and peak summer season - but three ideas have saved me money on accommodation. First, there is a condo booking agency called Resortquest that can offer off season specials - I stayed in a gorgeous townhouse a block from the village square, with hot tub, fireplace, kitchen, sleeping 4-6 people for $100 in the early fall - ask about any deals like that!

If you are sociable, and willing to both ENJOY and put up with the common areas of a bed and breakfast - Chalet Beau Sejour had bed and breakfast in a spectacular chalet looking out on the mountains for $90-125. Very social hosts, and a dining table looking out on the mountains with double sided fireplace and mulled wine while visitors from around the world discuss snow and ski conditions simply can’t be beat!

Lastly, there are two hostels - the venerable Shoestring Lodge, just north of Whistler maybe ten blocks distance, and slated to be “developed” into townhouses before the Olympics, has beds for $25, as does the hostel across the Lake from Whistler - you may share a room with some interesting strangers, but that price leaves plenty of money for food and entertainment!

Whistler has an incredible array of high end restaurants, but one I found outstanding was the Edgewater Lodge, just north of Whistler a few miles. Check the picture in the website, combined with the Zagat quote “venison to die for” (they have their own venison farm) and you’ll be on your way!

At the other end of the spectrum, the mall beside the Whistler Conference Center hosts Shakespeare’s Pies - Australian meat pies for under $4 that you will come back for over and over, especially after visiting Whistler’s bars and nightclubs!

Three bars stand out as amongst Whistler’s best, and offer a unique experience. Tommy Africa’s will attract the early 20s crowd, with glass DJ booth, the best local DJs and a zebra striped door! The Savage Beagle is a two level bar on the main walkway, with a crowded dance floor downstairs, and a “belly up to the bar” section upstairs. The “cougar bar” for 30s and up is Buffalo Bills, at the other end of the main walkway - live bands, great DJs and comedians have offered many great nights over the years.

Ski lift passes are often available at the 7-11 in Squamish or Vancouver on your way to Whistler for a discount that can be $10-20 per lift ticket. Lift lines are shortest at the Whistler Creekside lift, if you want to get going quickly, but I prefer the skiing at Blackcomb, the other mountain (they are joined at Whistler Village)

The best kept secrets about Whistler are the summer activities - there are a group of pristine lakes to swim or canoe, mountain bikes with full protection gear are rocketed to the top of the mountain for rapid or tricky, descents, and the ski hill has a glacier at the top that is kept open until August!

Oh yeah, some guys named Palmer and Nicholas have golf courses, and there are ski camps, tennis camps, zip trek lines, heli hiking, white water rafting, fishing, horseback riding, ATVs - there are a LOT of great things to do, but bring money!!

Enjoy it now, before the Olympics - because 2 weeks of staring at this on TV is going to make the world go crazy for Whistler!

What is a Timeshare Resale?

Timeshare is a word that means a method of ownership for a certain property. This is usually a property that is used for a certain period of time during the year. The person will pay an initial investment for the timeshare and then will also pay the maintenance fee each year for the upkeep. When a person decides that they no longer want to take on this responsibility, they will then do a timeshare resale.

When a person purchases a timeshare resale, they are paying for all the marketing that has been done to sell the timeshare. Buying a resale will have a tremendous savings for that person. The person must make sure that they are getting the same good benefits when you resale that property in the future. There are many different programs that will help people so that they do not get taken advantage of when they do the sale. This is the best way to make sure that you are covering your back when you take this type of adventure.

There are already so many fees included in a timeshare that a person that is involved in this type of transaction needs to be careful. There is going to be the actual purchase of the property and the closing cots. There is sometimes going to be a membership transfer fee that needs to be paid and the annual membership fee with the exchanging company. There is a lot to think about before taking this huge financial leap.

The exchange is when you deposit the week with an exchange and then asking for a week to use in place of the week that you are placing a deposit on. The exchange company does not have to find someone to use your week before they will give you the exchange. Once you deposit your week, you are done with it. It is going to be very important to deposit your week in advance so that you have more power with your week.

Timeshare resale is found in all parts of the country. They are usually found to be in a great vacation spot and are a beautiful place to spend a good time in. Most of the timeshare spots will have everything that you could possibly want. Usually when the property is in a great location, the timeshare resale will be a lot better and more profitable.

Getting a timeshare is going to be one of the best ways to see the world and make a good investment at the same time. There are many huge business people that are involved with this timeshare resale adventure and will have a lot of success and fun at the same time.

6 Great Online Christmas Shopping Tips

Christmas shopping is no longer confined to the local mall or an annual catalog that happens to find it’s way into your mailbox. Thanks to advanced technology, there is literally a whole world of shopping at your fingertips. The internet has revolutionized the way people shop and, besides, what better way to do your Christmas shopping than from the comfort of your own home. No longer must we suit up and weather the harsh winter days in the hopes of checking a few names off of our Christmas list. The store aisles, as we know them, are crowded and hectic.

But now, many store aisles are becoming virtual, a shopping cart is something you fill with images of a product and a checkout is something that you click on to confirm your order. Things have changed a lot in the past years and I wonder how many of us couldn’t even imagine what life would be like without the convenience of shopping on the internet. There are several tips for online Christmas shopping, which can make the experience a smooth and pleasant one.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #1: Be prepared

It’s a good idea to start your shopping with a complete list. This will save you both time and money with having to go back and place a separate order later on. With most online stores, you pay a flat shipping fee. In some cases, if you spend a certain amount of money on your order, the shipping and handling fee is waived. It’s always best to get everything you want, all at once, to save on shipping. Before you commit to buying from one store, shop around and compare prices on both the product and shipping.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #2: The early bird gets the gift

If you want to get the best selection, begin your holiday shopping early. Internet stores generally carry large quantities of every item, but even they can sell out. As Christmas draws near, it becomes more difficult to find the exact item that you’re looking for. There’s nothing like finding the perfect item and seeing the words, ‘Sold Out’ written under the price.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #3: Shop Safe

When ordering anything online, check product reviews if available. Always shop secured websites because you will be entering your credit card, or banking information, for payment. You don’t want your financial information accessed by anyone else, which is why all secured websites let you know how they protect your data.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #4: Wrap it up

If you’re like most, there’s not a lot of extra time around the holidays. If you need to save some time on wrapping, most online stores offer a gift wrapping service for a small fee. At some point during the ordering process, you may be asked if you would like to add gift wrap or a name tag. It’s as easy as the click of a button, which is much easier than trying to tie the perfect bow.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #5: Check Delivery Dates

When placing your order, check to make sure that the item is in stock or will be delivered in time for Christmas. Many times, especially near the holidays, items will go on a backorder status. It’s not uncommon for an advanced order item to have a delivery date of January, so be sure to check the status of the items in your shopping cart, along with their expected delivery dates. Not only that, but it’s also a good idea to check on the company’s shipping policy and delivery time for in-stock items.

Online Christmas Shopping Tip #6: Christmas Cards?

With all the stuff going on in December it’s easy to forget to send out Christmas cards to family and friends. But if you forget to send traditional Christmas cards in time all is not lost. In fact, there are some great sites and services online that will send your christmas cards out for you (saving you precious time). You can find services that are both free and paid, and services that send both digital and tradition paper Christmas cards.

Master Minded the one to watch at Cheltenham Festival

Master Minded is the sizzling hot favourite to win the prestigiousQueen Mother Champion Chaseat the Cheltenham Festival next month, so much so that his odds of 3-1 are a vast hop, skip and a jump away from his nearest rivals - Voy Por Ustedes, Big Zeb and Petit Robin, who all share odds of 12-1!

He has all the backing in the world with three-time Champion trainer, Paul Nicholls, carefully coaxing him to his very best and in the heat of the chase he can rely on the tactics, empathy and strength of one of the leading jockeys of all time, the incomparable Ruby Walsh!

Although Nicholls has trained literally thousands of horses over the years, he has claimed that the big bay is his biggest triumph and when you consider that star performers like Kauto Star and Denman are part and parcel of the Ditcheat stables, then it is indeed a massive accolade for the six year old French bred Master chaser.

Oddly enough the horse failed to impress in continental Europe, even taking a couple of spectacular dives. In the words of the great Nicholls “He’d had a couple of falls in France, and he was a bit stupid with his jumping. He was brave and silly”. He could so easily have been overlooked for the big time but a man who certainly knows how to pick his horseflesh, Clive Smith, decided he was worth his weight in gold and promptly purchased the exuberant young horse and installed him under the watchful eye of Nicholls.

Master Minded settled in with aplomb, showing his mettle on British soil for the first time by out jumping an entire field of seasoned hunt campaigners at the Handicap Chase at Sandown in 2008. He didn’t just win the race, he left them all in the dust, flustered and rather taken aback at the tenacity and cheek of the young interloper…..and a French one at that!

Even before he made his Cheltenham Festival debut in the same year, the bookmakers paid him one of the highest equine compliments by making him an 8-1 pick for the Rynair Chase and a 25-1 for the Champion Chase!

At Aintree he was beaten by his arch nemesis but a change in tactics seemed to have him wrong footed right from the outset of the race. Instead of gunning to the front, his jockey on the day held him back with disastrous results - he’s clearly a leader amongst steeds in more ways than one!

His current form is exemplary - he claimed effortless victories in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown and then went on to win at Ascot, where his preferred jockey, Ruby Walsh, was back in the saddle again after taking time out for an injury. By the looks of things, there will be no stopping the brave young horse from claiming the crown of Cheltenham all over again!

Planning your next Trip?

Currency movements can affect the cost of a trip. For example, a favorable rate of exchange means that your local currency is worth more and will provide you with more buying power. In fact, travelers whose local currency has appreciated dramatically will find that they will be able to afford much more on their vacation this year. On the other hand, a less favorable exchange rate of exchange means that your currency will be worth less resulting in less buying power overseas. If your domestic currency has depreciated significantly you may find your options more limited. As a traveler, your main concern should be to get the most favorable rate possible. In order to do this, however, one must first understand the foreign exchange market.

In the foreign exchange market, the currency of one country is exchanged for an equivalent amount of the currency of another. Foreign exchange rates are not static, but change dynamically-sometimes many times within a single minute. At this point, however, most of you might be asking, why does it take more dollars to buy a euro this week than it did last week? Why would it cost you more today to buy a cup of coffee in another country than it did before, even though the price has remained the same there? The answer has to do with the value of a country’s currency relative to the price of another currency.

Currencies, just like any other commodity that can be bought or sold, are subject to the laws of supply and demand. When more people want a particular currency, the cost of the currency in terms of other currencies will go up. When demand decreases or people do not want to hold a country’s currency, the value will go down. One factor that directly affects demand for a currency is international trade. For instance, if I buy a Japanese car in the US, I give dollars to my dealer, who gave dollars to his distributor, and so on. But before the profits are banked by the carmaker in Japan, they are converted into Yen. There is a surge of buying of Japanese cars this month, the result is going to be increased demand for Yen-which will in turn cause an appreciation in the Yen’s value. An increase in international investment into Japan would have the same effect, since more money is being converted into Yen to purchase Japanese assets.

As a traveler, understanding currency fluctuations will help you to take advantage of favorable rates of exchange and spot a deal when you see one. For example let’s look at the EUR/USD (Euro vs. US dollar) currency pair did over the last three years and how any changes might have affected tourism in each of them.

Currency pairYear Rate of exchange (highest)Rate of exchange (Lowest)

EUR/USD 2003$1.2646$1.0333
2004$1.3666$1.1758
2005$1.3579$1.1864

From looking at the table taken from www.dailyfx.com, we can see that in less than 3 years, the euro steadily rose in value against the US dollar going from $1.2646 to a high of $1.3579. This favorable rate of exchange for Euros vs. US dollars made traveling to the United States a much better deal in 2005 than in both 2003 and 2004. For the traveler who noticed this long term upward trend early could have probably delayed his 2004 trip to the United States knowing that his hard earned cash would go further in 2005.

When planning a trip to another country all individuals should keep in mind that the major currencies tend to move +/- 1% in a given day, which is a relatively minor move unless you are changing thousands at a time. This means that visiting smaller countries with less developed economies should warrant more research and planning since, these countries’ currency would prove more volatile to rate changes. A great way to find out about the current state of exchange rates is to visit GoCurrency.com, a currency conversion site that covers over 150 currencies worldwide.

To sum up, whether it’s a business trip or a second honeymoon, a working knowledge of the foreign exchange market can and will make any international journey a more relaxed one.

Treasure Hunting in England

I have been interested in Metal Detecting since around 1983 when my Mum and Dad introduced me to the hobby. They had been detecting for a couple of years on beaches around the Uk only at holiday time, and it often helped get a few pounds together to help pay for the holiday spends.

On the holiday in 1983 my Mum and Dad had taken Myself and Brother on a holiday to France. Each night we’d go down the beach with 2 detectors between 4 of us and gladly pick up the days droppings. This usually went to pay for our meals and drinks later the same night. On one particular night I was getting rather bored and actually took a rest on the sand whilst the others continued detecting. Whilst sitting in the sand I started sifting with my hands and out popped a 24 carat gold necklace. I was hooked. As soon as we got back to the UK we enquired about our local club and joined straight away.

It is now over 21 years since I joined my local club and I have also been Vice Chairman and Chairman. I have made some lovely finds. These range from Celtic and Roman Coins and Brooches, Old English Silver and Gold Coind going back hundreds of years and lots of Jewellry. I will update you on some of the finds in future articles.I am also a member of the National Council of Metal Detecting and have had articles printed in the press and been on Radio.

In October 2004 I created treasurehunting.tv This website has grown from strength to strength in the six months it has been on the net. It now averages in excess of 100,000 unique hits a month. It has probably the most concise directory of over 400 Metal Detecting Websites. It also has live News Feeds in relation to Treasure Hunting. Add to this the Forum and the dozens of Metal Detecting stories the site is something I am proud of. I am also in the midst of creating a Hoard Database which will have articles and pictures of Hoards found whilst Treasure Hunting.

So next time your walking in the hills of England and you see a guy walking along with a Metal Detector pop over and have achat. It might just be me. And if you’d like to have alook at some of the finds why not visit me on my website.
