A Taste of Tahoe

A Taste of Tahoe:

By Ronda Moll

Just as the majesty of the tall pine trees complement the beauty
of the crystalline waters of Lake Tahoe, so does the cuisine of
the many fine restaurants visitors can expect to find from
Stateline to South Shore.

Whether it’s grabbing a burger and fries or relishing a savory
bit of filet mignon, the dining options at the lake are
limitless and can accommodate any appetite.

Atmosphere is essential to any successful restaurant and for
such establishments as the Riva Grill, Llewellyn’s, and the
Fresh Ketch Restaurant, mesmerizing lakeviews and exceptional
cuisine complement each other like the perfect wine selection at
dinner.

Known for a classic, Tahoe style ambiance, The Riva Grill
located at the Ski Run Marina, has a generous redwood deck that
allows its guests to soak in the smell of the tall pine trees
and of course the hypnotic view. Entrée selections can range
from coconut prawn appetizers and chicken sandwiches for lunch,
to herb crusted halibut or a generous steak for dinner. What
attracts patrons even more is the “Wet Woody” a frozen
concoction of seven different kinds of rum, named after the
classic wooden Chris Craft boats that once dotted the lake’s
shore. Sipping on one of these tropical sensations while gazing
out at the snow-capped mountains and pale blue water indeed
provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day of leisure.

The paradise feel can be captured once again, in a sleek and
sophisticated bar known as the Coco Havana Club. Located at the
top of Harvey’s Resort and Casino Hotel, the Coco Havana Club is
akin to a 1940s nightclub. Situated inside of the resort’s
culinary high point, Llewellyn’s, this smart bar complements the
innovative continental cuisine patrons have come to expect from
this elegant restaurant. Boasting spectacular views, both the
Coco Havana Club and Llewellyn’s provide an intimate and
relaxing ambiance with the idea of luxury in mind.

For a more casual dining experience, the Fresh Ketch Restaurant
at the Tahoe Keys Marina, offers the perfect blend of nautical
décor with sunny decks and succulent seafood. From fish and
chips to fish tacos, the lunch menu is informal. Weather
permitting customers can enjoy a cool glass of iced tea on the
sunny deck, while watching the peaceful lull of sailboats
sitting peacefully in their slips. For that yacht club feel
dinner is hosted in a formal dining area.

With so many restaurants and so little time, it is impossible to
list every establishment that puts the “taste” in Tahoe, but if
sushi is a favorite, then the Naked Fish, is one of the most
popular sushi bars in the area. For those looking for the
perfect ravioli, Passaretti’s Italian Restaurant has authentic
dishes and leaves its patrons feeling full and satisfied.

Just as skiing through untracked powder or jet skiing on the
lake are the perfect activities for making a memorable Lake
Tahoe vacation, so does ending the day with a great meal while
watching the sun set on another perfect day at Lake Tahoe. Be

A Dirtbagging Trip

Dirtbagging is stripping camping or backpacking down to the
essentials: fun and adventure. Just throw a few things in
any old pack, and get out there. You don’t need all that
expensive camping and backpacking gear. Leave the extra
clothes behind, sleep in a pile of leaves or next to a fire.
Dirtbagging is keeping it simple and using your wits instead
of your wallet.

Recipe For A Dirtbagging Trip

Take an old inflated rubber tube, a bivy sack made from
garbage bags, and some snacks. Put them in an beat-up
daypack, add a bus ride, a river, wild strawberries and a
thunderstorm or two. Mix well and enjoy.

This particular dirtbagging trip was a float down the
Boardman River in Michigan. I took the bus out of town, and
had the driver drop me off on the side of the road, where
the river passed under. The water is shallow, but fast here.
The sun was shining when stepped into the cold current.

I had brought a few warm things to wear to bed instead of
using a sleeping bag. I carried a small umbrella to use on
the river and over my head at night. Altogether, I had maybe
10 pounds in the bundle on my lap as I floated down the
river sitting in the tube, with my butt and my feet in the
cold water. I had to navigate usking my hands as paddles.

The trout were surfacing everywhere and the deer were
stepping back from the riverbank at the sight of me. Blue
heron were hunting for fish in the shallows. A beaver
slapped his tail against the water when he saw me. I floated
for hours, the view alternaing between wilderness areas and
small collections of nice homes.

I was just going with the flow. It was very relaxing, and
yet still had the element of unpredictability, and thus
adventure.

There were wild strawberries at every stop, and when I
stopped for the night I feasted on them until the rain came.
It rained all night, but I stayed dry in my garbage bag bivy
sack (my dirtbagging shelter), with a small umbrella over my
head. A large white-tail deer almost stepped on me in the
middle of the night, and scared me half to death with his
snorting. In the morning it was still raining.

It wasn’t just raining, it was a wicked thunderstorm. One
thing about a bivy sack is that you don’t have enough space
to keep yourself entertained. So, storm or not, it was time
to get moving. I bundled up my few things, stepped into the
cold river, and sat in the tube.

I drifted by beautiful houses, sitting there in a heavy
sweater, with my umbrella over my head. The morning light
was late because of the storm. People looked up from their
coffee to see me in a flash of lightning. I waved and
floated on.

Closer to home, I had a great time slogging through
knee-deep mud in a portage around a dam. It was almost like
quicksand. I worked my way free, and took a trail through
the rainy woods along the river. By noon I was safely home
and wondering if it was too early for a beer. That’s
dirtbagging.

Niagara Falls Stunning Well Worth a Visit

A visit to Niagara Falls is a must for anyone visiting Ontario, Canada. They are absolutely spectacular close up and the noise is deafening. A ride on the maid of the Mist is an experience and the tour underneath the falls. The resort of Niagara Falls is quite commercialised and i would recommend that a stay in Niagara on the Lake would make for a more relaxed tranquil break. It reminded me very much of Stratford in the UK. There is more than enough to do for a short break, and if you are the adventureous type the speed boat ride shooting the rapids and whirlpools is a must.

Most of the larger hotels offer falls views from the rooms but these are more expensive and we found them fully booked if not booked before hand.
We spent a very entertaining evening in the enormous casino in the middle of the resort, limiting ourselves to a set budget.

The fireworks display and light show on the Friday and Saturday evenings was spectacular over the falls and all in all it was a great weekend away.
The cheaest flights were through the Canadian Experience company
and their coices of hotel catered for all budgets.

Do ISPs Block VoIP?

Having been an avid VoIP user for for a good few years I was baffled as to why all of a sudden I had been having so many problems. Sound quality has reduced and latency issues have increased significantly. Users on VoIP online forums in the US and other countries, including France and Mexico, have been noting similar problems since last year. For a while Voice over IP might seem like a great deal for the average person, entrenched interests in the telecoms industry view it differently - and are taking action against it.

Consultation

Well aware of what has happened elsewhere the United Kingdom telecoms regulator Ofcom took the unusual action in February of announcing that it will look at the burgeoning VoIP industry and report next month on whether new laws are needed to shield it. The consultation document says: “VoIP service providers have expressed concern that their ability to provide a reliable service may be impacted by internet access providers (ISPs) selectively degrading or blocking their VoIP traffic.”

Ofcom says it has no evidence this is occurring in the UK; only about 000 customers use VoIP. But the forecast is for that to rise by 4m in the next six months.

And VoIP barring takes place in other countries, more often than not those where there is still only a single telecoms company. In Saudi Arabia, for example national carrier Saudi Telecom is using software from US supplier Narus to bar all Voice over IP phone calls.

Telecommunication companies in the US and other countries are reluctant to have their bandwidth encroached on by traffic from which they earn no revenue and have been challenged over similar alleged incidents of internet telephony barring. Hindering internet telephony traffic is complicated but does not break the law and blocking specific types of internet traffic is going up.

Luxembourg-based VoIP provider Skype now owned by the pre-eminent auction site eBay has been particularly controversial. Skype is used by over 75m people. But increasingly a lot of people do not want Skype on their network.

Skype is seen by a lot of people to pose a potential security threat because it creates an encrypted tunnel out of the network and forms supernodes that sit on it and connect VoIP calls. There is considerable debate about how much bandwidth such supernodes eat up. There have been claims that in supernode mode, Skype could possibly saturate a 100 Mbps line.

A Fabulous Guide to Florida’s Best Rentals: Condos for Rent, Rental Houses, and Rental Condos

A Fabulous Guide to Florida’s Best Rentals: Condos for rent, rental houses, rental condos and townhouse rentals - how to make sense of the overwhelming mass of fabulous and not so fabulous real estate to spend your Florida Vacation in!!

Chances are, at least once in your life time, you will find yourself finding out everything there is to know about renting a place to stay while on vacation in Central Florida. It could be that the kids want to see all of the wealth of attractions and theme parks in and around Walt Disney World. Maybe your family wants to loll about in a hammock while you play some golf near Orlando, or take in some of the many dinner shows and museums. Perhaps the siren call of Florida’s balmy winter climate may be your idea of a great way to take your family away from the frigid northern snow, ice and lack of sunshine. Better yet, maybe your folks have asked you to come down and enjoy a holiday or two with them, but you prefer to have a modicum of privacy and some elbow room while your kids stroll through the theme parks with their Grandparents.

Whatever your reason or reasons for paying a visit to the Central Florida area are, you will no doubt begin to wonder where on earth you will find a suitable, low cost, attractive, rental condo or how you can find out how much to pay for the condos rent. And the questions don’t stop there. What type of rental house would be close to Disney yet far away from the noise of the city? What type of townhouse rentals would be a suitable environment for the kids, yet offer enough luxury amenities to pamper the older members of your family and their fine acquired tastes? This guide won’t contain any hints on what to wear to the theme parks, or how to get crazy old Aunt Bertha to stop asking how to get a good supply of unicorn chow. This is more of a no nonsense, straight forward guide to doing the best vacation near all of the attractions (Including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, The Winter Haven spring baseball camps for professional baseball players, and so forth).

To start with, you will need to scour the web for the best price. Then you can begin your search in earnest after excluding some accommodations that leave little to be desired in terms of lodging features or even safe and attractive townhouse rentals. Could your family be happy in a rental house, or would your family prefer to have their down time spent in a resort near Walt Disney World featuring the safest, lowest price rental condos? Are you traveling with a large group of adults who would prefer to split the condos rent while giving the Orlando area’s bars and nightspots a try? The Orlando area is a vast, sprawling region, flavored by its surrounding town in many distinct ways. The cracker settlers who came in the early days of Florida’s history were quick to discover cheap lodging in the Old Town Kissimmee Florida area, and that legacy remains to this day. The area near Disney offers many cheap lodging in several cities and counties. While there are several high dollar advertising campaigns designed to lure travelers to the area around Disney’s borders, the lion’s share of tawdry and lowest price condo for rent belongs to the Kissimmee area, near Disney=s back entrance .No one wants to stay overnight in rental condos that are surrounded by gaudy tourist traps and three for ten dollar tee shirt shops, or worse yet stay in the midst of a poorly designed low cost accommodation that offers no amenities and poor service. Hardly the dream vacation or worse yet, honeymoon of your dreams, right?

When you choose your ideal rental condos, your location should be the first factor in your quest for booking a low cost townhouse rental reservation or rental house reservation and scoring the perfect blend of luxury, best price and proximity to the attractions that you want to visit. Ask a few pointed questions to the person answering the lodging’s phone lines: What type of rental condos do you offer, and how many bedrooms are actually separated by walls from each other? Does the resort offer any last minute specials or deals for those who are traveling from places near the central Florida area? Sometimes you can get a discount or gain a cheap reservation for simply belonging to an automobile club or having a military identification card? Orlando condos should always come with the following lodging details: central air conditioning, central plumbing and hot water, linens of a decent thread count, a certain lack of wandering nearby marsupials, a clean appearance, recent construction or the addition of new modern renovations to the lodging, family amenities such as a kid’s playground or a pool, and some kitchen amenities such as a working refrigerator’, a good microwave and some place to store your family’s spare clothing while you explore the central Florida area.

If your family or traveling party will be staying in a rental house and needs to have some room to wander, you may want to consider what type of neighborhood that you will need to book a reservation in. The area close to the route 27 and route 192 are seems to span the best of all worlds, offering low cost reservations and spacious accommodations in beautiful, usually new or renovated rental condos, rental houses, and rental townhouses. The presence of the nightly Disney fireworks in the evening skies in the Davenport area is stunning, and yet the Davenport Florida resembles the quiet May berry type of town that all of us long to bring back to life for our modern families. Close enough to be a neighbor to Walt Disney World and house many of its cast members, the Davenport Florida area seems to have escaped the rush to build monuments of gaudiness and preserved its small town feel, all while offering the traveling family a short drive to all of Florida’s attractions, theme parks, dining and shopping areas. The best of all places to choose a rental house or a rental condo, Davenport features many inroads to all of the best of central Florida, and the Orlando area. The rental condos and rental condos (or rental houses)in this area near Disney and yet close to Universal and a short drive to Busch Gardens in Tampa, yet they lie a short drive away from the wealth of attractions and theme parks of the International Drive area. Luxury shopping and dining choices await those who wish to travel the I4 highway near Davenport Florida, including the Florida Mall (featuring the best in shopping with such fabulous stores as Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and diverse selections such as Tommy Bahama and Sephora) and the mall of Millennia, near downtown Orlando (offering such splendid choices as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Anthropologie, Z Gallery, Coach, Tiffany, Louis Vuitton and Godiva chocolates, to name a few). The vast region of central Florida is a patchwork of several choices for the family who wishes to find a great price on their condos rent, or get the best neighborhood for their vacation townhouse rental.

Poker Table Tops

The “playground” of the game of pokerpoker tabletopsare constructed with sheets plywood. Usually, the tabletops are covered with poker cloth or billiard felt. However, some tabletops use faux suede or velveteen. The quality and type of material used varies with price. Wealthy poker enthusiasts can have their poker tabletops made of costly premium wood and leather.

Poker tabletops, unsurprisingly, assume the shape of the table, which are generally of three shapes: round, oval, and octagonal. A standard, full-size Texas Hold’em eight-player poker table comes with dimensions of 91″” 46.”" Poker table manufacturers make tables built to order with the colors and graphics preferred by the client. These are as popular as readymade poker tables. Pokercats, a major poker table manufacturer, also sells poker table building supplies, including poker tabletops. Royal Gaming Products sells high-quality, fully customizable poker tables, with tabletops selected by the buyers.

Online poker game sites offer an entirely different display. Dynamic table backgrounds are the most noticeable peculiarity of online poker game sites. The tabletop changes with changing rounds. A player who makes it to the final table of a tournament could have gone through a number of tabletops. A player can play on WSOP tables by playing in a WSOP satellite. Custom-designed poker tabletops are not far away. Players will eventually have the right to design their own custom table backgrounds and use them in custom tournaments. Thus, uninteresting, commonplace tables that look the same can be changed into custom-made tables that reflect the player’s individuality.

The Fantastic World of Liquid Crystal Display TVs

With the level of evolution arising in television technology of late it pays to be familiar with numerous of the most significant developments. This article to liquid crystal display televisions (LCD) focuses on the specific benefits of the equipment. This information brings you all the crucial facts on how to find the top quality picture and provides an explanation on several of the key points to look out for with Liquid Crystal Display tellies.

There at present two convincing benefits with LCD TVs over Plasma TVs. The 1st is that LCD could possibly be considerably easier to watch when matched to a cathode ray tube (CRT) TV set. This is primarily because screens are extensively brighter with a high contrast level & flicker free image. Liquid Crystal Display televisions normally work as they should in more or less any type of room lighting from bright to ambient. Secondly, Liquid Crystal Display tellies by and large have a greater native resolution than plasma TVs of a comparable size as a result making them great for hi-def output. Even though plasma TVs are at this time superior for pure display size, as more & more TV channels come in high-def TV (HDTV), Liquid Crystal Display manufactured goods will probably come to the forefront.

How Do LCD Televisions Work?

LCD technology is reasonably complex & improving all the time. This technology is founded upon the fact that liquid crystals are, in their daily state, twisted. The aptitude of the crystals to permit light through can be changed by submitting electric voltage. Very straightforwardly put, a light source is shone through a liquid containing crystals held amid two polarised displays. By allowing the precise degree of light to pass through, the wanted picture is made. Find amazing deals on Cheap 26″ LCD TV at Sound and Vision!

Keeping Materialism Out of the Holidays

I am pretty sure that, if it were just me, I would be celebrating the holiday season with no more than a fat cup of egg nog, a James Taylor CD, and a few simple handmade gifts for friends and family.

But I have three children, and that means that - like most parents - I must balance the
spirit of the season with a series of nagging “wants” and whines.

Nothing squashes the spirit of Christmas more for me than this. But - it’s a fact of life. So,
over the last seven years or so, I’ve found a few ways to help me prevent materialism
from stealing the season…

1. Make an agreement with the adults on your list that you will exchange either handmade items, or
donate to a charity in their name. When we model selfless gift-giving, it can make a big difference
to watchful children.

2. Discuss with your children, whenever possible this season, how it feels to give. Refocus on
the giving aspect of the holiday as much as you can.

3. Adopt a special cause each year. The Heifer Project (http://www.heifer.org/) is wonderfully
suited for holiday traditions. This charity allows you to purchase a gift animal for a family
in need (ranging from heifers to rabbits and everything in between). These gift animals then
provide resources that the recipients need to thrive in daily life. When we purchase a Heifer
Project gift for someone, our kids draw a picture of the gifted animal, and we frame and wrap the
artwork.

4. Purchase your holiday cards from Unicef.

5. Ask each of your children to write a Dear Santa letter and to include at least three things
that they can’t touch or see.

6. Focus on family traditions and celebrating family togetherness.

7. On Christmas Day, plan something to do directly after all the gifts are opened. No matter
how long a family spends unwrapping presents, there is sometimes a sense of deflation after the
last one. Each year, we get dressed to go to grandma’s…

8. Help your children to raise money for a good cause this time of year. Organize a fundraiser
where the children wrap gifts for a donation or $1 or $2, for example.

9. Instead of a material gift, give something that will create memories. Some good ideas:
sporting events, plays, movies, concerts, a mother-daughter trip to the spa.

10. Make the process of preparing for the holidays every bit as important as the big day itself.
Carve out time for baking, decorating, and wrapping gifts as a family.

Five Tips for Holiday Office Party Behavior

Holiday office parties stick in our minds under two categories: either a Deadly Dull Evening or Someone Really Embarrassed Himself. The hard part is navigating the middle ground between these two extremes. Here are some tips for enjoying yourself at your employer’s holiday gathering without earning the rep “goofball.”

EAT FIRST. You should eat before you arrive. If the company serves a sit-down dinner, it’s more likely than not a rubber-chicken sort of menu anyway, so eat something healthy to fill up a bit, and stave off intoxication, before you get there.

DRESS FOR AN OFFICE PARTY, NOT THE CLUB. Many people, and young people more than many, have trouble choosing the appropriate clothes for an office holiday party. If it’s an evening affair, you want to look nice - but looking nice and looking like you’re off to the club are not one and the same. You need to keep it in check at a holiday office party - that means not as much exposed flesh as you’d bare at a dance club, for instance. You want to look dressed-up (if it’s a dressy party) but not ready to get down.

DON’T HANG WITH YOUR HOMIES. If you really want to have fun, stick with your buds from Accounting or the group you know best, and just talk and drink. That’s fine. But if you want to take this opportunity to make a good impression on others, including higher-ups, then make a point of meeting some of them. Prepare a little speech: “Hi, I’m Jackson from Real Estate - we haven’t met before.” Get to know some new people - this is your chance!

BE PREPARED FOR INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION. If you venture to chat with the CFO, be sure you know what’s up (at a general level) with the company’s finances and strategic initiatives, so you don’t embarrass yourself. If, for instance, the CFO tosses out the name of your company’s latest acquisition (which was widely reported in the media, you should know what’s talking about.

LEAVE EARLY. Don’t be the last person to leave the joint - take off a bit earlier, when you’re still sober, your hair still looks tidy, and you’re still speaking coherently. Have fun, but leave a good impression.

See? You’ll be in bed by midnight. Or, if you’re still feeling the urge to party, you can hightail it over to your favorite club and put those party clothes to good use.
